The weakest password charts

Every year, the Hasso-Plattner-Institut (HPI) collects the most popular passwords. And like clockwork, very weak variations are invariably found at the very top of the list. The same applies to 2023.

“123456789” was the most popular weak password of 2023 in Switzerland. The even worse combination of “12345678” made second place. Rank three is held by the password “hallo”, as PCtipp reports, citing the HPI.

Based on this annually published list, the HPI demonstrates that many people negligently trust in simple words or keyboard sequences for their passwords – and literally invite Internet criminals in that way.
