OSINT denotes the acquisition and analysis of information obtained from publicly available, open sources with the aim of obtaining actionable insights for analyses, decisions or research that way. In contrast to methods employed by secret services, where information is gleaned from protected or covert sources, OSINT uses publicly available data such as media reports, social networks, websites, academic publications, public registers or other content which is freely available. The term “Open Source” refers to the source of information being open.
