A “passkey” is a passwordless log-in method, consisting of a public and a private key, with the secret key always remaining on a local device such as a smartphone or USB stick, never leaving them. The device itself acts as a means of authentification. Contrary to passwords, passkeys are therefore device- and not person-specific.
