Multi-factor authentification is a security procedure which involves checking a user’s identity via a combination of several independent factors. Such factors could for instance be passwords, scanning QR codes or biometric characteristics. Using MFA reduces the risk of unauthorised access as any attacker would have to overcome several hurdles posed by separate factors to obtain access. The best-known type of multi-factor authentification is two-factor authentification (2FA).
