Save your money &ndash; such security software is hardly ever necessary!<\/p>\n<p>Additional protection software is typically offered in the following areas:<\/p>\n<h3>Spam and phishing<\/h3>\n<p>Software and apps promising to protect you against <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Spam&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;This is the umbrella term for unwanted e-mails which often contain advertising materials. Phishing mails, aiming to steal personal data from the recipient, also count as spam.&lt;\/div&gt;\n\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>spam<\/span> and <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Phishing&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;This term is made up from the words &amp;quot;password&rdquo; and &amp;quot;fishing&rdquo;. Attackers use &amp;lt;a href=&amp;quot;https:\/\/www.ebas.ch\/en\/phishing\/&amp;quot;&amp;gt;phishing&amp;lt;\/a&amp;gt; to obtain confidential data from unsuspecting Internet users. These might for instance involve access data for your e-banking facility or account information of online shops. Perpetrators abuse their victims&rsquo; good faith and helpfulness by purporting to be, say, an employee of a trustworthy financial institution.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;There are a variety of other variations such as Vishing (voice phishing or phone phishing), Smishing (SMS \/ text phishing) and QR phishing in addition to classic phishing via e-mail.&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\n\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>phishing<\/span> mails often fulfil their function to a certain degree and can reduce the number of unwanted and fraudulent e-mails. Still, some <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Spam&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;This is the umbrella term for unwanted e-mails which often contain advertising materials. Phishing mails, aiming to steal personal data from the recipient, also count as spam.&lt;\/div&gt;\n\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>spam<\/span> e-mails and fraud attempts will find their way into your inbox.<\/p>\n<p>Installing such (frequently expensive) security software often conveys a false sense of security. And that may just lead to you rashly opening any e-mails and attachments, resulting in you falling for new scams more easily because your protection software does not yet recognise them as such.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, such software and apps can only be recommended with caution. Instead, increased attention and wariness are crucial. Your own attentiveness provides the best protection!<\/p>\n<h3>E-banking and mobile banking<\/h3>\n<p>Swiss financial institution e-banking systems count amongst the most secure in the world. It is practically impossible for a bank account to be &ldquo;cleaned out&rdquo; unnoticed.<\/p>\n<p>Advertising claims by some software promising additional security for your e-banking and mobile banking facilities often only play on consumers&rsquo; fears. They deliberately conjure up horrific images to sell their own products. Almost all Internet sites, in particular those of financial institutions, are already encrypted to a high security standard by default.<\/p>\n<p>Still, VPNs can come in quite useful.
