The famous &ldquo;lock&rdquo; could soon become a thing of the past in all browsers.<\/p>\n<p>It was several months ago already that Google announced they will be replacing the symbol marking a secure connection in autumn. The by now well-known &ldquo;lock symbol&rdquo; is to be replaced by a slider.<\/p>\n<p>This decision is motivated by the observation that the visual lock display suggests a false sense of security to many users. This icon stands for a connection to a website secured by a TSL\/<span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;This is the description of the predecessor of Transport Layer Security (TLS).&lt;\/div&gt;\n\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>SSL<\/span> or https:\/\/ connection. Since not just renowned providers, but most <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Phishing&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;This term is made up from the words &amp;quot;password&rdquo; and &amp;quot;fishing&rdquo;. Attackers use &amp;lt;a href=&amp;quot;https:\/\/www.ebas.ch\/en\/phishing\/&amp;quot;&amp;gt;phishing&amp;lt;\/a&amp;gt; to obtain confidential data from unsuspecting Internet users. These might for instance involve access data for your e-banking facility or account information of online shops. Perpetrators abuse their victims&rsquo; good faith and helpfulness by purporting to be, say, an employee of a trustworthy financial institution.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;There are a variety of other variations such as Vishing (voice phishing or phone phishing), Smishing (SMS \/ text phishing) and QR phishing in addition to classic phishing via e-mail.&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\n\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>phishing<\/span> websites also employ TSL&nbsp;encryption by now, a lock no longer confirms that a website is safe to visit.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-37557\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ebas.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/zertifikat_android_chrome_en_0-300x70.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"70\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ebas.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/zertifikat_android_chrome_en_0-300x70.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ebas.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/zertifikat_android_chrome_en_0-768x180.png 768w, https:\/\/www.ebas.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/zertifikat_android_chrome_en_0-705x165.png 705w, https:\/\/www.ebas.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/zertifikat_android_chrome_en_0.png 821w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>This change announced by Google has only been implemented in their Chrome <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Browser&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;A special computer program to display websites on the World Wide Web (WWW) or data and documents in general. The most important browsers used on the Internet are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Apple Safari.&lt;\/div&gt;\n\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>browser<\/span> version for Android so far, which has begun to display a slider instead of a lock symbol a short while ago. The desktop version of Chrome and all other browsers is still using the old symbol.
