You are therefore passing on your data to a third party. This raises concerns with regard to security and data protection.<\/p>\n<h3>Cloud provider location<\/h3>\n<p>The cloud <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Provider&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;This is the provider of access to the Internet, i.e. the organisation or company enabling users to connect their device to the Internet.&lt;\/div&gt;\n\" data-mobile-support=\"0\" data-gt-translate-attributes=\"[{&quot;attribute&quot;:&quot;data-cmtooltip&quot;, &quot;format&quot;:&quot;html&quot;}]\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">provider<\/span>&rsquo;s location is vital: Your data are often stored abroad and are therefore subject to different data protection laws. In addition, many data on the Internet are systematically recorded and analysed by intelligence services.<\/p>\n<p>According to law, storage and retention of data is also a form of data processing and hence subject to data protection.<\/p>\n<p>Using cloud services therefore becomes particularly critical if third party personal data requiring special protection are stored with a cloud <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Provider&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;This is the provider of access to the Internet, i.e. the organisation or company enabling users to connect their device to the Internet.&lt;\/div&gt;\n\" data-mobile-support=\"0\" data-gt-translate-attributes=\"[{&quot;attribute&quot;:&quot;data-cmtooltip&quot;, &quot;format&quot;:&quot;html&quot;}]\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">provider<\/span>. Or you use a program or app installed on your device providing you with access to your service.<\/p>\n<p>The point of access is the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Vulnerability&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;A vulnerability is a term denominating a vulnerability found in any hardware or software which could trigger unexpected, unwanted system behaviour under certain conditions.&lt;\/div&gt;\n\" data-mobile-support=\"0\" data-gt-translate-attributes=\"[{&quot;attribute&quot;:&quot;data-cmtooltip&quot;, &quot;format&quot;:&quot;html&quot;}]\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">vulnerability<\/span> here: A weak <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Password&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Serves for authentication. If you use a cloud service via software or an app installed, you must ensure that your data are transmitted via an encrypted connection via your configuration settings.<\/p>\n<h3>Secure data storage<\/h3>\n<p>With cloud storage, you entrust third parties with the storage of your data. For this reason, it is vital to pay particular attention to data back-ups and data encryption.<\/p>\n<p>Most cloud providers now offer the option to file your data in encrypted form. Yet while this is generally easy and convenient to handle, it is just about impossible to check how reliable this is. Malware is the generic term for software which executes malicious functions on a device (such as viruses, worms, Trojans, ransomware).&lt;\/div&gt;\n\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>malware<\/span>, your data are not secure in the cloud either and are liable to attack.
