But they are also a playground for fraudsters. They use increasingly ingenious scam, especially as far as payment and shipment are concerned.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ebas-gist\">\n<h4>This is how to protect yourself:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Look out for conspicuous communication<\/strong>: If communication takes an unexpectedly swift or pressing turn, cease all contact.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be wary of channel changes<\/strong>: Watch out for people wanting to move from the sales platform to WhatsApp, text messages or e-mail communications. Reputable sellers or buyers have no reason to move to private channels.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don&rsquo;t pass on any sensitive data to receive payment<\/strong>: You never need any e-banking access details for any payment receipts, and there is no need to scan any <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Quick Response code&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Originally, &amp;lt;a href=&amp;quot;https:\/\/www.ebas.ch\/qrcode&amp;quot;&amp;gt;QR codes&amp;lt;\/a&amp;gt; were used to mark assemblies and components in the car manufacturing sector. Nowadays, QR codes are also used for invoices (&amp;lt;a href=&amp;quot;https:\/\/www.ebas.ch\/en\/qr-invoices\/&amp;quot;&amp;gt;QR invoices&amp;lt;\/a&amp;gt;) as well as in the publishing and marketing sectors to link physical objects (products, print media, posters, etc.) with the online world and make additional information available this way. As the contents of QR codes cannot readily be decoded by humans, these codes have to be scanned in first, e. g. using a smartphone.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;Users cannot usually see what kind of information is coded into them before scanning in a QR code. The supposed deal is quickly done, but then the trap is set: Sellers will receive an e-mail, text or WhatsApp message supposedly originating from the marketplace involved.<\/p>\n<p>It contains a <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Hyperlink&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;This is a cross reference, for instance to websites, which makes it possible to jump to another electronic document or a different location inside a document when clicked. The linked site looks very similar to the real post office, banking or TWINT websites. If you enter your details there, you fall straight into the trap. The attackers are trying to obtain TWINT, banking or credit card details &ndash; or to convince their victims to install PayPal, <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Online banks&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Internet banks offer their products exclusively via the Internet. Internet banks have no physical branches, keeping their fees for the products on offer relatively low. Due to the limited points of contact available, the level of support offered can be drastically different from those of traditional financial institutions.&lt;\/div&gt;\n\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>Revolut<\/span> or something of a similar nature.<\/p>\n<h4>Be wary of channel changes<\/h4>\n<p>Fraudsters like to quickly change from the sales platform to another channel of communication, such as WhatsApp, text message or e-mail. The reason: Away from the official platform, you are less protected, and sellers can hardly ever track fraudulent behaviour. Shortly after, a purported buyer sends you a friendly message to say they are interested. They suggest paying via TWINT and sending the goods by post. They are also sending you a <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Hyperlink&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;This is a cross reference, for instance to websites, which makes it possible to jump to another electronic document or a different location inside a document when clicked.
